In the topic “这是什么意思” on Hellotalk, you can see there are so many posts asking the meanings of different Internet slang or neologism.

First, either in the communication with natives or on the Chinese social media and online platforms, these kinds of words and expressions just keep popping up !

Second, for those who live in China, as these kinds of words and expressions have already entered the linguistic landscape, it is common to see them everywhere in the public spaces (e.g. road signs, street commercial posters, names of stores, metro posters, etc.)

Last but not least, it’s hard to find the proper explanations with contexts of these kinds of words and expressions in current dictionaries.

Some learners met them when they’re reading the Chinese comics created by the authors of the new generation.

Some learners are interested in mastering “the most popular Chinese slang” (maybe for sounding more “native”)
